May Challenge--Mosaics

For this month's challenge our artists had fun interpreting the theme "Mosaics" They could be traditional grouted designs, ungrouted pieces, or our even faux mosaics. Entries had to follow the theme and contain 50% polymer clay. Take a look at the unique creations!

Vote and Win!
Three lucky winners will be selected in a drawing of all non-member voters and will be able to choose a prize offered by our member shops sponsoring this month's challenge. See the list of participating sponsors and prizes.

And the entries are:
1. Friendship Mosaic by Marcia of marcympc
This is a small mosaic plaque in blues and ivory with embellishments. It was created using a mosaic technique - various pieces were created separately, then combined to make a statement. The base is a textured dark blue clay with pearlized accents. A light blue square with textured ivory circle and an ivory face enlarge on the theme of "Friendship" with that word accented in gold at the bottom.

2. Mosaic Pendant by Lisa of HiGirls
I had fun creating this piece with many textures, colors and metallic finishes. Finished with plum and copper metallic handmade bicone beads.

3. Green Pearl Mosaic Brooch No. 124 by Susan of 11BOLDstreet
For the "Mosaic" PCAGOE Monthly Challenge, I created a multi-layered base, applied a Skinner blend of pearl green to beige and carved a deep design. Then I backfilled with black polymer "grout" and sanded and buffed the edges. 2 5/8" x 1 3/4" x 5/16" thick.

4. Peacock Crazy Quilt Mosaic Switchplate by Marie of YoungCreative
Look closely and you'll see a hint of peacock hiding in this switch plate. Each piece is cut from custom color blends of polymer pieced together into a "crazy quilt" with a more geometric tile mosaic in the center.

5. Colorful Mosaic Tile Trinket Box by Angela of PolymerClayCreations
My entry into this month's Mosaic Challenge was fun and challenging. I first made the box. Next I made a whole bunch of tiles in every color. The challenging part was puzzling them on and then figuring out what to do for grout. All in all it was pretty fun to make.

6. Green Mod Bracelet by Freda of FredaK
Polymer clay bracelet in a mod design on brass

7. Fan Barrette by Jill of Jkollmann
Created for the "Mosaic" challenge, I did an interpretation that avoids straight edges. This is a barrette, 3 inches across and 2.5 inches tall. Instead of "grout" I used resin.

8. Life is Art Mosaic by Arlene of Ashpaints
The message in this mosaic spoke to me because it touches on three of my favorite things to do - paint, sing, dance! The various elements and colors in this mosaic just go together with the message to make me smile. Each tile is handmade and then carefully pieced together in this 9" x 6" wooden frame. The frame was also made by me in my wood workshop.

9. Eightfold Path by Suzen of PhoenixRose
This is my first mosaic and I have been obsessed with it for a month. I had the most fun doing it! It is my entry for the PCAGOE Challenge this month.

10. Peacock Mosaic Serving Tray by Beth of CreateMyWorld
Polymer clay tiles created using various techniques. The brilliant blue tiles were created with mica shift, the lime green back feathers were simply a skinner blend of greens, and the darker green tail feathers were a take on Lynda Moseley's controlled blending technique. For these green tail feathers, I did a controlled blend of teal and emerald greens with one contrast of rust red, then I took the blended sheet and cut it into strips which I assembled Bargello style before I cut all of the individual tiles. The background was a blend of clays and mica powders to create a look similar to Travertine marble. The hundreds (possibly more) pieces were all hand cut and individually glued in place, then a grout was smoothed over the entire piece. The piece was sanded and buffed and coated with a protective finish. For a closer detail photo, please check out my flickr photostream at: www.flickr.com/photos/createmyworlddesigns

11. Here Comes the Sun! by Line of PlaySculptLive
Mosaics is the theme for May's PCAGOE Challenge. A garden plate with a beautiful sun can maybe coax spring into staying.

Found out about this in Jackie Sieben’s Facebook. (The Pleasant Pheasant on Etsy also.)

Lovely pieces. So hard to choose. Found out about it from Marie Young's Young Creative PC FB page.

All were very nice but wow the three I liked best looked like they were made of something other than polymer, which is Amazing!

Linda how very cute is that ladybug and the lovely flowers, wish I had thought of it. Susan great piece, love the copper clay. Arlene, what a cool idea you can never have too many pen cups. Everyone did a marvelous job as usual, and you all deserve credit for what you made. Wonderful, yet again!

HiGirls Designs is the FB account I heard of this through.

Vi no Facebook sobre o concurso-Polymer Clay Artists Guild of Etsy. Adorei todas as peças.
I want to try to make your pen cup Arlene and learn the leaf gradient. The photo transfers are too intimidating for me right now, and I can't even begin to be able to make the sculptures- very impressive ladies.

I received word of this from Jackie Sieben's Facebook page.

What talent! It was a difficult task to make voting decisions. I found this contest posted on Polymer Clay Creations' Facebook page. I started following her because of her gorgeous polymer clay crochet hooks.
